Creating evidence-based health behaviour change programmes for your employees

  • I support companies that want to build a wellness programme that is going to bring about long-term change in employee health and happiness. A programme that not only has measurable results but delivers a lasting legacy.
  • I support companies that were sick of the poor uptake in their health and wellness offerings, companies that care about supporting their employees’ long-term health, companies that aren’t interested in a quick fix or another health bolt on.
  • I support companies that want a wellness programme that is evidence-based, focused on the employee journey and a programme that provides compelling long-term health outcomes. Not only that but a wellness programme that utilises the often-underutilised existing services that your company already has.

Providing evidence-based health behaviour change supported products and services for your customers

I work with companies that are both at the beginning of their journey and those that are currently developing a wellbeing product or service for their customers. These are companies that want to build strong foundations in their health programme or digital wellness offering, ensuring they are providing a service or product that is evidence-based and thus most effective in supporting their customer's long-term health changes.

My range of services include (more information on each of these can be found in the tabs below)

  • Design and delivery of health-related behaviour change programmes
  • Enhancement of existing programmes to improve employee/customer outcomes
  • Workshop series design and delivery
  • Digital health behaviour change design and delivery
  • Bespoke employee training in behaviour change practices to support their team in long-term healthy habit change
  • Train the trainer programmes
  • Evidence-based reviews
  • Evaluation guidance – both qualitative and quantitative
  • Training in motivational interviewing

What I offer

I tend to work by splitting each project into 3 steps. Projects can be implemented using all or selective parts of the process.

1. Design

Behaviour change programme design:

  • I help companies design evidence-based wellness programmes: This firstly includes a behaviour change audit. The audit examines how to join up the gaps in a wellbeing programme, looking for barriers and opportunities to employee engagement and creating a 360° holistic and individual journey to support ongoing change.
    • Key activities in this audit include focus groups, mapping user journeys, pinpointing behavioural gaps in both digital and person facing interventions. Integrating the latest findings from the research into a company’s employee journey in order to support lasting changes and positive health outcomes for both face to face and digital programme delivery.
    • By the end of the audit, companies will receive a report and presentation on the recommended evidence-based next steps in order to maximise the outcomes and effectiveness of their current or future wellbeing programme.
      • This can involve the creation of new services and support. However, the majority of the time it will be focused on maximising existing health resources within the company.
  • I design and deliver wellbeing champion/employee training in behaviour change communication and support so that they can best promote the company’s current offering from within the workplace.
  • I offer motivational language support in both digital and print communication: which includes revising health based communications to ensure the language used is consistent with behaviour change theories (Self-determination theory and the language of motivational interviewing) that best support sustainable health changes.

2. Delivery

Evidence-based workshop series:

  • This is an option that can be embedded in ongoing programmes where the focus is on supporting long term healthy habit maintenance. This can work well as a series or in combination with other workshops on health-related topics. This tends to be my most popular workshop offer for companies and comes as a series of three workshops (45-60 minutes in length).
    • Session 1: The Science of Motivation I - building habit skills
In this session, I take employees on a journey from the science of motivation, through to how to overcome the most prevalent habit myths. By the end of this session, employees will have created a healthy habit roadmap for creating and implementing sustainable change.
    • Session 2: The Science of Motivation II - it’s your environment that counts
This session will explain the science behind distracted eating, critical self-talk and provide insight into how to mobilise employees physical, social and mental environment to make the healthier choice the easier choice.
    • Session 3: The Science of Motivation III - The art of creating lasting change
In this session, I will discuss how to apply the key evidence-based tools to help support your employee’s ongoing success at implementing your healthy habit goals. By the end of this session, employees will have created a system for lasting habit change.

Stand-alone workshops:

These can be delivered as a single workshop (45-60minutes in length) or as a series of three.

  1. The Art and Science of Motivation (a condensed version of the three workshops above)
    • The science behind making your health goals last
    • Evidence-based ways to create meaningful goals and overcome your longstanding barriers to change
    • How to stop making the same resolutions and start taking sustainable steps
  2. Self-care in a Frantic World; how self-kindness gets you to your goals faster and helps you stay there longer
    • The science behind why kindness is a cornerstone habit to all that we do
    • How critical self-talk can undermine personal productivity and happiness
    • How to overcome negative self-talk and personal image to be more effective and driven in your life
    • The research-driven tactics for modifying your mental mistakes to gain back control of your health and happiness
  3. Intelligent Eating; a journey from mindless to mindful eating
    • Learn how distracted eating might be affecting your health;
    • How to differentiate between emotional and physical hunger (and what to do about it)
    • Evidence-based mindful eating practice to incorporate into your work day

By the end of each workshop, employees will leave having created their personal habit blueprint to support the longevity of their own healthy habit journey.

1:1 Habit Coaching:

I regularly run habit coaching pop-ups and clinics for companies.

  • Pop-ups tend to be a day of 30-minute sample sessions for relevant team members to support them in executing on any existing wellbeing programmes and embedding the skills that they have learnt from any existing elements of the programme. The purpose of the pop-ups is often to support the harder to reach employees to engage in an existing programme.
  • Clinics tend to be monthly 1:1 sessions of 45-minutes over a period of 3-12 months. These are much more in-depth sessions that are often offered to support the legacy of a health programme after it has been completed in the interest of creating long term habit change.

3. Support

Evidence report

I offer companies a bespoke summary of the latest findings in the field of health-related behaviour change, employee wellbeing and intervention science.

  • I provide an overview of the latest and most significant findings in the field and importantly a direct translation of how these findings could apply to the company in question to maximise both its current engagement and future work.
  • This summary report can be monthly, quarterly or yearly.

Evaluation support

I also advise on and create evidence-based evaluations to capture the effectiveness of existing and future programmes. This includes recommending evaluation measures and building in process and outcome-based evaluations to support companies in demonstrating the effectiveness of employee wellbeing programmes.
